The Iowa 80: Truck Stop Goals
If you’ve ever taken even a long-distance road trip across the United States, you don’t have to travel that far to see that truck stops are an iconic part of the American highway. You might think that they’re pretty much all the same. Some gas pumps, a couple of restaurants, a convenience store, and not much else.
But one truck stop stands above the rest. The largest of its kind in the world, the Disneyland of truck stops: the Iowa 80. If your route ever brings you near exit 284 off Interstate 80 in the town of Walcott, Iowa, you’re in for a treat.
First off, the place is huge. Its main building has a surface area of 67,000 square feet. There’s 150 fuel pumps and parking for over 900 trucks.
Besides the usual fueling stations and truck scales, you can get your truck serviced and washed while you have lunch. There are also lounges, shower rooms, a business center, and a barber shop.
Perhaps the most surprising amenity of the Iowa 80 is its own dentist office. So if you’re driving by exit 284 Interstate 80 with a nagging toothache, you’re in luck!
